Curious if TreLuxe is a good fit for your curls? After using their full product line consistently over the last few years, I’ve got some thoughts to share—what worked, what changed, and which ones I still reach for in 2025.
Overall, TreLuxe has been a solid brand in my routine. Their products are well-formulated, easy to use, and especially great if you’re newer to embracing your natural texture. They offer just the right balance of moisture without being too heavy—at least when I first started. These days, now that my hair is more protein-loving and easily weighed down, I only use a couple of their products regularly.
The one thing I’ve always noticed is the scent. While the products smell nice, they’re definitely on the stronger side compared to other natural lines. They’ve started offering some fragrance-free options, which I appreciate, but most of the line still has a noticeable scent—so if you’re sensitive to that, just something to keep in mind.
That said, I still think TreLuxe is a great option for most people with curls or waves. Keep reading to see what each product is like and how they’ve worked on my fine, low-porosity hair.

About TreLuxe
TreLuxe is a brand that aims to help those with curly and wavy hair find quality products while keeping things simple. Now you all know I love simple so this is right up my alley. Just 3 products to wash and style is something I totally support. Their products work on a wide range of curlies and wavies and use quality ingredients.
They also fund health, wellness, and education for at-risk girls in low income communities! I love it when brands give back like this.
They are also available at select Walgreen’s around the country in addition to being online and in Whole Foods. Their prices are fairly moderate too so they are a more accessible curly brand.

TreLuxe Curl Renew & Restore Review
This is their low poo cleanser, pictured above in the green bottle. It’s a low sudsing shampoo that doesn’t strip my hair and isn’t too cleansing. I find it more moisturizing than the low poos I normally choose, so I think it would work well for most people that like a mild shampoo.
It has a nice fresh scent, although it’s definitely synthetic. I don’t find it overpowering and it doesn’t linger. It leaves my hair clean and fresh feeling.
It’s not stripping enough for me to use every wash. I would have to alternate it with a more cleansing shampoo and clarify often. For most people though, this would be perfectly fine.
TRELUXE Gentle Cleansing Rinse
This gentle cleanser has a mild lather making it ideal for those who need a little more moisture but don’t want to cowash.

TreLuxe Untie The Knot conditioner Review
I love dual purpose products and this is a conditioner and leave in. It is creamy and moisturizing but this one has a much stronger cinnamon scent. I did find that it lingered so that’s the main thing I didn’t like about it. But it left my hair very soft and made detangling easy.
I did use too much the first time so I rinsed it all out and only left in a tiny dab squished with lots of water the next time, and that worked perfectly. (ETA: I now don’t leave any conditioner in my hair.)
It spreads easily and has good slip so detangling was easy. I always let my conditioner sit for a few minutes then squish in some water before detangling anyway.
As a daily conditioner, this is slightly too moisturizing for me, so I don’t reach for this often. Remember though, that is just the case for my hair which does not like a lot of moisture. I am not the norm in the curly world!

TreLuxe Hi! Definition Gel Review
This curl enhancing gel is very popular. It comes in a jar and is fairly thick, but not creamy. It also has that clean scent much like the cleanser.
This gel is aloe based but it is glycerin free. It also has some protein in it which helps balance this out to suit most hair types.
It works for well me but I definitely notice that my hair has tighter curls when I use styling products with glycerin. Still, as you can see from the photos it works great for my hair.
The gel gives amazing definition while keeping my hair soft. It offers a light to medium hold and it also adds some shine. And although it can last several days, it falls flatter each day, likely due to the lack of glycerin which makes my curls spring more, and the fact that it is not a strong hold.
If your hair likes aloe and protein, and you prefer soft curls with some hold, then this would be a great gel for you. I tend to reach for this gel in the winter when my hair can handle the moisture and doesn’t need a super strong hold, but I skip it in the summer due to the propylene glycol which is a humectant that my hair is not a fan of in the humidity. (This is only because it’s the third ingredient and there aren’t any humidity-resistant ingredient in the formulation, otherwise it wouldn’t matter.)

TreLuxe ReFlex Curl Styling Serum
This product I purchased myself after seeing so many glowing reviews. And they were not wrong!
This is by far my favorite product of theirs and I regularly use it with EVOLVh to get ultimate volume and definition in my thin curls.
It’s a clear oil-free liquid that can be used on its own or paired with another styling product. According to the listing of TreLuxes’ website, the ReFlex serum helps to:
- Increase curl elasticity
- Improve hair flexibility
- Hydrate hair/reduce moisture loss
- Strengthen hair by stabilizing bonds within the hair’s cortex
- Improve the texture of hair and create a smooth, polished appearance
I find that this product does indeed do all of these things. It’s pretty amazing!
My hair is extra shiny and soft with this serum. It’s as if it smooths down each strand of hair and I notice fewer tangles with it. However, I do not use it on its own since it lacks hold. I layer this under a gel for best results.
It does have a strong scent but they also have a fragrance free version.
TRELUXE Reflex Curl Styling Serum
Make refreshing a breeze with this serum that can be used alone to smooth out frizz and revive curls. I also use it as a single styler on wash day with great results. Great for all hair types.

TreLuxe Sooth & Restore Curl Defining Mousse
I really like this mousse! And my daughter has stolen it from my bathroom because it’s become her favorite styling product.
This mousse defines, adds volume, and provides light to medium hold. I didn’t find it to be sticky unless I applied it to dry hair (which is common with foams and mousses). But once it dries the stickiness goes away.
It’s lightweight and has aloe, protein, and polymers for hold, so it works well even in light humidity. I have successfully used it as a single styler which is very rare from a foam/mousse. It also has a much lighter fragrance than their other products.

TreLuxe Curl Supreme Styling Creme
If you prefer more moisture in your routine, you will love this cream. It’s thick and creamy, as you’d expect. It has even more slip than the conditioner, and spreads easily. It has a strong scent though it is pleasant, but of course, that is subjective. It lingers all day like the others.
This is way too heavy for my hair, which I knew before I even had it in my hands based on the ingredients. But this would work well for dry, thick curls that do well with aloe, coconut oil, and protein. It has a light hold so it’s nice to layer under the Hi! Definition gel.
TreLuxe Aloe Vera Curl Primer
If detangling your curls feels like the longest, most frustrating part of your routine, this product might just be your new best friend. The Aloe Vera Curl Primer from TreLuxe is packed with slip and lightweight moisture, which makes your brush glide through tangles like butter, seriously, it cut my detangling time in half. I’ve used it a few different ways now: as a rinse-out after shampooing, a quick refresh on dry days, and even a pre-poo treatment. No matter how I used it, the results were the same—soft, silky, tangle-free curls that stayed smoother between wash days too.
This one has a light creamy texture that won’t weigh down fine hair (like mine) and is full of ingredients curly hair loves—aloe, glycerin, vitamin E, and light oils. It does have a strong fruity scent, kind of like something you’d find at Bath & Body Works circa 2002. It’s not overpowering like Untie The Knot’s cinnamon scent, but if you’re very sensitive to fragrance, just know this one doesn’t come in a fragrance-free option (yet). Still, if you’re looking for a product that makes detangling easier and helps your curls stay soft and smooth for days, this is one I highly recommend adding to your TreLuxe lineup.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I really like the TreLuxe line and will continue using several of their products. If your hair is like mine and doesn’t do well with too much moisture, I’d skip the cleanser and conditioner and focus on their stylers, especially the Curl Defining Mousse, Hi! Definition Gel and ReFlex Serum. These give me long-lasting hold and soft, defined curls without buildup.
The Aloe Vera Curl Primer has quickly become a standout. It’s the best detangling product I’ve tried—lightweight, super slippery, and helps keep tangles away even between wash days. If detangling is something you dread, this one might make a big difference for you.
